Jun 27, 2024

Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), congratulated the students with disabilities graduating this year. Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela wished them a journey full of achievement and giving.

She said, “Every year, SCHS hosts a closing ceremony to honor the graduating students who have successfully completed their educational program and to support the creative expression and artistic talents of students with disabilities. This serves to highlight these students and increase community awareness of them.”.

She added, “Education is very important to SCHS. Following the finest international methods, it has been working since its founding in 1979 to include, empower, educate, and integrate persons with disabilities, all while being supervised by a team of top experts and educators.”.

Her Excellency Sheikha Jamila Al Qasimi is so proud of the graduation of a new group of students from SCHS, which included 11 students from Al Amal School for the Deaf who joined their former fellow graduates, wishing them continuity and success in their academic and social achievements.

Al Amal School for the Deaf is the first school for deaf and hard of hearing people in the United Arab Emirates. It was established in 1979 and adopts bilingualism (speech and sign language) in teaching students to keep pace with the latest developments within a distinguished educational environment, where feelings of mutual trust prevail between the school’s students, parents, and educational staff. This is a renewed and sustainable confidence over the years.

Since its founding until today, the school has graduated 99 high school students, 56 of whom joined collage, and many of whom graduated in various specializations and joined the labor market.

She added, “SCHS was the first to employ art to serve people with disabilities by establishing the Emirates Group for Special Art in Sharjah in 1995. It was the first to introduce music education in color for people with mental disabilities in 2009, and later it established the Artistic Creativity Group for People with Disabilities, independently and complementary to the Group. Emirates Private Art Center in 2010, and these efforts culminated in 2017 by establishing the Art Center for All “Falaj” as a continuation of its previous and successful steps in this field”.

She added, “The creativity presented by our students today confirms that the approach taken by SCHS is sound. It calls on individuals and institutions of society to believe in the capabilities and talents of people with disabilities and to support them in various fields...

This came on the closing ceremony of SCHS’s activities for the academic year 2023-2024, which was organized by SCHS at Sharjah Cultural Palace on Thursday, June 27, 2024, in the presence of a large number of parents, media figures, and SCHS officials and employees.

The ceremony began with the national anthem of UAE. Then, the student Bardis Hamdi, a member of the Masarat Center for Development and Empowerment recited some Verses from the Holy Qur’an. Then, the co-host of the ceremony, student Yousef Al-Mulla, who is also a member of SCHS’s Masarat Center for Development and Empowerment, gave a speech in which he welcomed the audience. He stressed that SCHS is keen every year to organize the closing ceremony for its programs and activities in order to express pride in its students who are preparing for the beginning of the new year.

On behalf of all his colleagues, Al-Mullah extended his sincere thanks, appreciation and gratitude to Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, President of SCHS, for the unlimited support she provides for their education, training, integration and improving the quality of their lives and the lives of their families. He also extended his sincere thanks to the parents who give their precious and invaluable effort to educate their children and develop their skills and abilities. Special thanks went to the teachers, specialists and administrators at SCHS, wishing everyone continued success.

"Honoring"

After that, Her Excellency Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director General of SCHS, and Ms. Afaf Al Haridi, Director of Al Amal School and Kindergarten for the Deaf, honored 11 graduates from high school, hoping for success in their next journey.

 "The new house"

After that, 60 students from SCHS and artists affiliated with the Art for All Center “Falaj” presented the theatrical performance “The New House” with a distinguished performance for which they deserved all the applause and encouragement.

The theatrical performance was written and directed by the director of the Art for All Center “Falaj” Muhammad Bakr. Its idea revolves around a family living in an old house, but despite the great love for it, it no longer accommodates the dreams and ambitions of the children who grow up and their dreams grow with them, so they all agree on the importance of moving to a “New house” that meets their aspirations and hopes.

Mr. Muhammad Bakr confirmed that all the songs presented in the show were sung by artists with disabilities who are members of the center. He also stressed that one of the most important goals of the closing ceremony was Highlighting the creative abilities and artistic talents of people with disabilities and motivating artists with disabilities to continue developing their artistic and creative skills, opening horizons for cooperation and community participation, and empowering creative people with disabilities within the artistic and cultural movement in the United Arab Emirates and its local, regional and international surroundings. In addition, it would highlight the exceptional and sustainable efforts and contribution provided by SCHS in including, advocating and empowering persons with disabilities in all fields.

He concluded by saying, “The remarkable cooperation between the members of the work team, especially children with disabilities, and their distinguished talents are among the most important factors that led to the success of the show, noting that working with people with disabilities is a source of pride and joy for all”.
