Feb 26, 2024

The International Scientific Conference “Theory and Practice in Adapted Physical Education (APE),” organized by the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) on March 6 and 7 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the Federation and Ruler of Sharjah, will witness broad participation by more than 30 speakers, specialists, and researchers. They will present their theses on topics that focus on raising awareness about the latest developments and modern practices in the field of APE for people with disabilities (intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, severe and multiple disabilities).

Held in scientific partnership with California State University - Chico and the Sharjah Education Academy, the conference will cover, in five main sessions, eighteen working papers from 26 researchers, including joint working papers on technology, health and safety, inclusive education, and rehabilitation. It will also look at ways to develop services and programs for people with disabilities by showcasing them, offering fresh insights, and sharing unique experiences related to APE.

The conference showcases cutting-edge research, experiences, and practices from both domestic and international sources in the areas of physical education and people with disabilities. The conference participants come from nine different countries: the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, the United States of America, South Korea, France, and Australia. It also keeps up with the latest advancements in the field of movement sciences and works to change the way society views people with disabilities. It also aims to achieve equality and justice by giving these individuals the resources they need to succeed in sports and physical activities.

Along with an interactive workshop highlighting APE tools for physical education teachers at SCHS, the conference agenda includes three specialized workshops on adapting object control skills for people with severe disabilities, international standards, and successful strategies for promoting inclusion in physical education. The workshop will take place over the course of two days.

By registering through its website, www.schs.ae, and social media platforms, SCHS offers the option of attending the conference sessions in person or virtually. The organizing committee has endeavored to provide a live broadcast of the conference's activities to reach the target segment from both inside and outside the country.
