GOLD AND BRONZE MEDALS FOR EMIRATI CHAMPION YOUSSEF AL MULLA AT THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD WINTER GAMES

Her Excellency Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) Chairperson Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi congratulated Yousef Al Mulla, an Emirati Special Olympics athlete and student at the SCHS's Masarat Centre for Development and Empowerment, on his two medals—one gold and one bronze—during his outstanding participation with the UAE national team in the Special Olympics World Winter Games, which were held in Turin, Italy, from March 7–16, 2025.

The chairperson of SCHS was really pleased with Youssef's performance in the ice-skating contests. She emphasized that this victory contributes to SCHS's extensive history of disabled athletes' success in all sports, which includes not just medals and first-place finishes but also the finest possible representation of the athletes, their foundation, and the community.

She underlined that the strong basis for the elevated status attained locally, regionally, and internationally is the unrestricted support given to people with disabilities in all spheres, including sports, by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, may God protect him.

She said, “The staff of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services is proud of these accomplishments, which highlight the significance of the mission they effectively carry out in their efforts to empower, advocate for, and integrate those with disabilities in line with global best practices”.

“There are no boundaries to the excellence that SCHS and its students have attained. Over the years, all its divisions and branches have demonstrated their superiority and have given the finest possible representation of the United Arab Emirates in Arab and international fora. It is now more convinced than ever that the strategy it has adopted and is still using is the right one”, added Sheikha Jameela.

According to Sheikha Jameela, SCHS has worked and will continue to work to give athletes with disabilities an engaging and encouraging environment in order to embrace, support, and empower them and increase their performance in prestigious local and worldwide competitions.

Great reception

When the hero Youssef and his comrades arrived at the homeland, they were met with a warm reception, a sign of the people's immense joy at their accomplishments.

Masarat Center for Development and Empowerment student Yousef Al Mulla expressed his happiness at his performance in the Turin competitions, following in the footsteps of his colleague, SCHS student Asma Ali Hassan, who took home gold and bronze at the 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Germany.

Youssef, the champion, thanked his family, SCHS, and all of its staff, especially Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, who goes above and beyond to assist, embrace, advocate for, and empower individuals with disabilities in all spheres of life.
