16 STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES FROM SCHS WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONAL ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ROBOTICS COMPETITION

Jan 26, 2020

Sixteen students from Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) will participate in the National Competition for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, which the Ministry of Education is organizing within the series of artificial intelligence and robot competitions for the year 2020. The capital, Abu Dhabi is hosting the event next February.

Therefore, SCHS Assistive Technology Center is coordinating with the Ministry of Education to grant the participation of students with disabilities from Al Wafa School for Capacity Development, Al Amal School for the Deaf, and Sharjah Center for Autism.  SCHS aims at developing students with disabilities skills and offer them equal opportunities like their non-disabled peers.

SCHS students will participate in various robot design projects alongside their peers from public and private schools.  They attended a program that the ministry organized with the aim of developing students’ skills and capabilities and training them according to best international practices.

During the training program, students were very careful to learn the very small details that will let them gain knowledge and the necessary techniques to win.  Notably, SCHS’s participation last year was minor.  However, this year SCHS arranged with the Ministry of Education in order for the students to compete with public and private schools.

SCHS has great interest in educating, training, including, advocating, and empowering students with disabilities in order to increase their self-confidence and integrate them into society.  In addition, SCHS seeks to consolidate the relationships of cooperation with local, regional, and international bodies and organizations.

The goal of participating in the competition is not limited to the scientific factor only. It is necessary to refer to the social factor associated with enhancing students' confidence and integrating them with their peers as well as the personal aspects associated with training students to acquire skills that develop their personalities and give them opportunities for a better future.

SCHS students were remarkably enthusiastic to participate in the competition and benefiting from their colleagues ’experiences from other schools. They also hope that their participation will be successful.
