Zakat Makes an Impact

Education as a Legitimate Channel of Zakat

For more than four decades, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services has believed that education is the foundation of empowerment and one of the most noble and impactful legitimate channels of Zakat, as it creates a lasting difference in the lives of persons with disabilities and their families.

Based on this vision, the City launches its annual Zakat Campaign under the slogan “Zakat Makes an Impact”, reaffirming the true meaning of giving and opening doors of hope for students with disabilities who are unable to afford educational fees.

Campaign Objective

This year’s campaign aims to raise AED 12,360,066 to cover the educational fees of 509 students with disabilities who are eligible for Zakat, in accordance with Shariah guidelines and the approved budget of the Zakat Disbursement Committee for 2025–2026.

Why Education?

Because education does more than change an individual’s life — it brings stability to families, builds sustainable livelihoods, and empowers persons with disabilities to actively participate in society.
Allocating Zakat to education is a long-term humanitarian investment that creates real and lasting impact.

A Commitment Since 1979

Since its establishment in 1979, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services has dedicated its mission to supporting, empowering, and advocating for persons with disabilities by providing specialized educational, rehabilitation, and support services that meet the highest international standards.

While the average annual tuition fee per student is approximately AED 30,000, the actual cost may range between AED 20,000 and AED 80,000, depending on the type of disability and the specialized services required. Zakat plays a vital role in ensuring the continuity of these essential services.

Shariah Approval and Transparency

The Zakat Campaign is based on the official Fatwa issued by the Permanent Fatwa Committee in the Emirate of Sharjah, which permits the collection and allocation of Zakat funds for the education of persons with disabilities.
Each case is carefully assessed by a specialized committee to ensure that Zakat reaches those who are genuinely eligible, with full transparency and accountability.
